El Campanil

Clock Tower at Mills College has the following signage:

EL CAMPANIL
ERECTED BY
MR. AND MRS. F.M. SMITH
MDCCCCIV

DESIGNED BY ARCHITECT
JULIA MORGAN
DEDICATED BY
SUSAN T. MILLS
APRIL 14, 1904

EL CAMPANIL IS THE
FIRST CONCRETE
REINFORCED
STRUCTURE
BUILT WEST OF
THE MISSISSIPPI (! *)

* (! Added) since it piqued my interest, I love random factoids like that, but if you look on the interwebs, apparently the “first” claim is a stretch, but it’s one of the first, and it did survive the 1906 quake!
