The Wave of Hope

The Wave of Hope is photographer Sharon Dawson’s project to open community dialogue on depression and suicide. She started the project after hearing that Lake County, where she lives, has the highest suicide rate per capita in California.

More info from the website:
The Wave of Hope is a traveling exhibit of portraits and stories from people who have been through some tough times in their lives and what they would say to someone who might be experiencing hard times right now. These are brave voices. They are setting the precedent of talking out loud. We are starting to break the silence that surrounds depression in the hopes of lessening the stigma.

Also a nice article in the Napa Valley paper from when The Wave was at the St. Helena Library.

The Wave is on display through this Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Petaluma Library.

There will be a fundraiser March 28, 2015 at the Twin Pine Casino Event Center in Middletown, CA.  Dinner, Entertainment – including Sonoma County Taiko – Auction. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
