Doing my part in the pumpkin insanity! Oh maybe I should save a can and make it at some non-holiday time of year. For the who knew file: the boys never use fresh pumpkin for this flavor. If using fresh they go with butternut squash, which they say tastes more like pumpkin than fresh pumpkin. Which, since we’re on the subject, what DOES pumpkin taste like? In a lot of things it seems like it’s more for the color/texture and the taste comes from whatever spices you use with it. The other option is to use “good ol’ canned pumpkin purée (Sweet Moses, please do not use “pumpkin pie filling”).” I went with option #2. Very nice. Oh, this would be tasty as a pumpkin ice cream pie!
