Point Defiance Park was another recommendation from the proud Tacoma native at the Karpeles Museum. It has some claim to fame as far as urban parks go, but that is escaping me at the moment. At 702 acres, it’s a good chunk of real estate, with some serious forest and neat looking trails.
I only had time to take the scenic drive around the peninsula and enjoy the views. There’s quite a few developed attractions as well, including a marina, a zoo and aquarium, a pagoda, a rose garden and a fort! You could spend a lot of time there. And not that Tacoma seemed like a totally overwhelming city, but the park seemed like quite a getaway right in town.
